Great testimony by Kathy Ireland

Kathy Ireland, who rose to fame in the 1980s as a model and was even on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue, has gone on to become a successful businesswoman and author. More importantly, though, is that she became a believer in Jesus Christ and has turned her life over to him.

In a recent interview with former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee on his Fox News show she explained her growth as a Christian and how she changed from being pro choice to pro life. In all, a very thoughtful testimony.

Nightline debate: Does Satan exist?

Mark Driscoll, preaching pastor at Mars Hill Church in Seattle, will be one of the participants on tonight’s program. If you can’t stay up to watch, the program is also online. Here is how ABC promoted the event:

The devil — also known as Satan, Lucifer and Beelzebub — has become the primary antagonist in almost every major religion. He is seen as the rebel, a serpent and a fallen angel who tempts mortals into committing sin, and preys upon their despair. But does Satan really exist?

That question will be debated Friday, March 20, when “Nightline” tackles the controversial and sensitive issue in the third installment of the “Face-Off” series.

The “Nightline Face-Off” launched two years ago by asking the question “Does God Exist?” The Face-Off aired on ABCNews.com and more than 15,000 comments were posted on the Web site as viewers engaged in the debate.

The conversation will pick up with a debate on the devil in Seattle at the Mars Hill Church, moderated by Dan Harris, who covers faith issues for the network.

Mark Richt lives his faith

Thanks to Justin Taylor for posting this. I would echo Justin’s comments that it is an awesome thing when a public person like Georgia football coach Mark Richt so openly expresses his faith. I am not a Georgia football fan, but I am a huge fan of Mark and Katharyn Richt. God is good. Click on the image to view the video.

Sept. 11, 2001: A tragic milestone day on TV

The Sept. 11 Television Archive has footage from each of the networks from Sept. 11, 2001. I remember watching the horrific events of that day unfold on ABC, so it was fascinating to watch that again and think back to what was going through my mind then.

To watch the ABC coverage, go here. The first video has the coverage from 8:31-9:12 a.m. and then you can click “next video” to watch further. (Note: The first plane struck the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. and was reported on the broadcast at 19:50 mark of the broadcast).

The first 19 minutes are the usual morning TV fare, which I didn’t watch at the time. Rather, I picked up the telecast just after the initial report since I had been taking my then-second grade daughter to school when the first plane struck. Looking back on it now, it strikes me how some things can seem utterly trivial in comparison with the major events in our life. Sadly, I think about how much time and energy I waste worrying about such things.

“Get ready for the ride of your life.”

OK, I’ve been waiting for this since I saw the trailer played in a movie theater before “Prince Caspian” in May. If space travel doesn’t give you you goosebumps, then I think you should check this out for sure. If it does already, then you don’t need me to tell you this looks like it’s going to be awesome.

Here is how the mini-series is described on the Discovery Channel site:

ORDINARY SUPERMAN

NASA selects seven men to become the first astronauts. They’re all test pilots, prepared to risk their lives. No one has ever survived a vertical launch on top of a rocket, but it’s the only way they know to put an astronaut into earth orbit. The Mercury astronauts and engineers need to figure out how to launch a man into space on top of a converted intercontinental ballistic missile.

FRIENDS AND RIVALS

For Project Gemini, a new generation of astronauts arrive at NASA — their mission, to test all the procedures required to land men on the moon and bring them safely back to earth. Each Gemini mission launches two men into space, leading to some of NASA’s greatest moments — Ed White’s spacewalk, the first orbital rendezvous of Gemini 6 and 7.

I know my friend Scott has been waiting for this, and I know he didn’t need anyone to tell him it was the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” playing in the background of the trailer, either.
